This Thursday morning in Ibiza unfolded with a quiet, everyday air. Yet if you squint just a bit, you can glimpse the undercurrent of the scene at eight in the morning. A Civil Guard minibus paused on Sant Jordi Boulevard as part of a broad anti-drug operation that yesterday led to more than ten arrests. In front of the Ses Torres de Cas Serres residential building, a large cache of luxury vehicles, narcotics, and cash was seized as part of a sweeping crackdown.
The operation targeted several routes of drug trafficking across Ibiza and broader Spain. Throughout the morning, police units were posted at different points on the island, drawing the attention of alert locals. In Es Viver, a dog patrol carried out a meticulous search that lasted well into the late morning. Not long after, more than a dozen officers moved into a rental car lot near Sant Josep Boulevard, breaking the entry at the main gate and securing the area.
Two records in ‘car rental’
A number of patrol officers from elite groups based on the island, in Palma, and on the Peninsula, including Reserve and Security Units and the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team, covered their faces with ski masks to conceal identities while carrying out the operation.
The sweep encompassed four sport utility vehicles, two white minivans, and a camouflaged vehicle. Armed forces surrounded Vip Cars Store, a company that specializes in high-end car rentals and is suspected of involvement with a major Valencia-based drug trafficking network, information from this newspaper confirms. Agents entered with authorization from a nearby witness and began a thorough search of the business premises.
This was not the only rental company targeted during the operation. A short while later, around eleven in the morning, several police cars moved to another site. They demolished a main metal fence and then proceeded to a nearby rental facility located on the airport road, continuing the investigation in parallel with the initial search.
The tension in the hall persisted for about an hour. Meanwhile, officers retrieved boxes of documents and removed several luxury vehicles from the fleet. Two Aston Martins, a Ferrari, and a Lincoln were impounded. Security personnel later left the site and returned minutes later with a bag containing the keys to the confiscated luxury cars.
Inside the building, officers opened the hood of one of the cars to inspect its engine and interior as colleagues restrained a middle‑aged man who occasionally flashed a wry smile. He was one of more than ten people taken into custody during the day’s operation.
By 7:00 p.m. the Civil Guard had closed the rental car entrance, and some officers moved toward the Can Sifre checkpoint with the seized vehicles, while others transported the pickup truck that carried the discovered body. The detainees are expected to remain in custody until Saturday, when they and other suspects are due to be brought before the authorities. The investigation continues under tight secrecy for now, according to sources familiar with the case.
