Iberia earned recognition in 2022 as Europe’s backbone airline by Cirium, a leading aviation analytics firm. Throughout the year, it stood out as the most punctual carrier in Europe from May through October.
Cirium’s On-Time Performance Report, the industry benchmark for punctuality analyses, recorded that 85.87% of Iberia’s flights in 2022 arrived on schedule, spanning a total of 91,154 departures to various destinations.
Following the COVID-19 crisis, the airline sector confronted its deepest upheaval. While 2022 marked a recovery year for the industry, it also brought operational hurdles driven by demand that exceeded forecasts. During the peak summer period, a number of European and North American airports where Iberia operates faced staffing shortages and other bottlenecks. In spite of these challenges, Iberia sustained strong punctuality levels and remained Europe’s most reliable airline through the summer season.
“Punctuality ranks among the traits most valued by our customers, so this achievement fills us with pride and reflects the dedication of every team member who ensures our planes take off and land on time. A heartfelt congratulations to the entire Iberia crew for collaborating toward a shared goal. There are few milestones that so clearly showcase teamwork, commitment, professionalism, and pride in the task as punctual operations do, because every department must harmonize like an orchestra to guarantee smooth execution,” stated Javier Sánchez-Prieto, President of Iberia.
