Capture more than 61 million tons of CO2 in nature
Iberdrola established Carbon2Nature (C2N) to foster high-impact, nature-based solutions that cut the global carbon footprint, boost biodiversity, and promote a sustainable economy, the energy company announced. The program embodies the belief that investing in nature drives development and resilience in the face of the climate crisis, while also creating sustainable value and profitability.
Carbon2Nature is launched through Iberdrola’s Perseo startup program, which includes thousands of startups and several valued at over a billion dollars, including Stem’s maker Wallbox. These innovators offer car charging solutions, smart storage, and other technologies that align with a cleaner energy future.
The initiative taps into carbon credit markets to develop in-house projects or collaborate with others, generating high-quality credits. As a complement to ambitious decarbonization strategies, Carbon2Nature enables Iberdrola and its customers to support net-zero pathways.
Led by Miguel Ángel García Tamargo, Carbon2Nature aims to generate a long-lasting global impact. The plan emphasizes geographic diversification and collaboration among local communities, public authorities, and other stakeholders to elevate project quality and sustainability outcomes.
The program targets nature-based solutions that are verifiably beneficial. All ventures will be certified to internationally recognized standards, validating biodiversity gains, community well-being, and alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
