Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, commented on the situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant following the destruction at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. He noted that conditions at ZNPP were comparatively stable for the moment, even as the Ukrainian counteroffensive persisted. The region remains tense, and the assessment reflects concern about the evolving security risk. The remarks were reported by TASS.
During Grossi’s visit to ZNPP, he observed concrete steps to conserve water and safeguard cooling systems essential for the facility’s operation.
In Grossi’s words, the current situation is relatively stable at the moment, yet the ongoing counterattack and the plant’s location along the front line keep him alert. He emphasized that other challenges tied to military actions could still influence the site’s safety and stability.
Earlier, Viktor Lyashko, the head of Ukraine’s Health Ministry, stated that in the event of an explosion at ZNPP, the city of Kyiv would not face direct consequences. He added that if an eruption occurs, residents of Ukraine should follow guidance tailored to the affected area and based on radiation monitoring data.
Reports from Ukraine have also referenced discussions about terms of negotiation with Russia, underscoring the broader political and security context surrounding the plant and its region. [source attribution: TASS]
