A man armed with a gun took hostages at a post office in Warabi, Japan. This incident was reported by Kommersant, which cited the local police department as the source of the information.
Officials from law enforcement indicated that the event occurred at 15:15 local time (09:15 Moscow time). Authorities suspect that the same individual had previously opened fire at a hospital, injuring two people in that earlier incident.
Television channel FNN released a photo from the scene. According to the channel, the man’s age is estimated to be between 50 and 70 years old. A rope-like item appears to be tied around his neck and attached to the firearm, based on the channel’s description.
Earlier, a different case in Japan involved an unemployed man who, before launching an attack, fell asleep while apprehended or confronted in the act of holding a hostage.
In Saitama prefecture, near Tokyo, another case involved an unemployed man who held a girl hostage for approximately one and a half days and who, according to reports, fell asleep before the assault and was subsequently neutralized.
There was also a separate, earlier report noting a collision between two ships in Saint Petersburg.
