In the Cantabrian town of Hinojedo, within the Suances municipality, authorities report that a 44-year-old man allegedly strangled his 83-year-old mother in the home they shared. After the tragic act, he is said to have taken his own life by hanging, according to information provided to EFE sources connected to the investigation.
The Civil Guard received a report on Wednesday afternoon from a family member who said that neither the son nor the mother could be reached by phone and that there were no signs of life at the residence. Responding officers arrived at the home later that day and found the woman showing signs of strangulation when they entered. This discovery set the baseline for the ongoing inquiry into what happened inside the dwelling.
Upon entering the house, located in the coastal municipality of Suances, investigators observed that the mother displayed clear signs of strangulation, with the prevailing assessment suggesting the possible use of a rope or a cable. In the same residence, the son was also present and had apparently hanged himself, reinforcing the suspicion of a fatal act occurring within the family home.
According to the same sources, the mother suffered health problems—having experienced a stroke—that impeded her ability to lead a normal day-to-day life. This medical history is noted as part of the context in which the events unfolded, though it does not by itself explain the fatal sequence that authorities are examining.
The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the sequence of events, the motives, and any contributing circumstances surrounding the deaths. At this stage, officials have not disclosed motive details, nor have they released updates on whether any other individuals were present in the residence or if there are additional lines of inquiry to pursue.
