Homeland Security Oversight and Media Giants: Vesna Extinction of Appeal and Meta Lawsuit Update

The General Judiciary’s First Court of Appeals has rejected Vesna’s request to be formally recognized as an extremist organization. Reports indicate the decision came via TASS, which cited the court’s ruling. This outcome means Vesna remains on the official list of extremist groups, and the court’s decision reinforces that status.

In its ruling, the court explained that the appeal challenging the St. Petersburg court’s designation of the Vesna movement as an extremist organization was reviewed and subsequently dismissed. The court affirmed that the prior decision stands, and the appeal did not succeed.

Earlier developments showed the Meshchansky Court in Moscow pursuing a class-action claim aimed at recovering more than 4 million rubles from Meta Platforms, Inc. for actions connected to the ownership and operation of Facebook, a platform previously targeted in Russia as an extremist entity. This move followed a suit filed by bloggers seeking financial remedies through a class-action mechanism. (Source: TASS) (Source: Moscow court filings)
