Russian students have created a device to test vitamin and mineral levels in the body. This project is highlighted by TASS based on the National Technology Initiative platform. The team from RUDN University has built a home blood testing kit that includes a finger-prick pen to draw a small blood sample, a sensor module to detect excess or deficiency of vitamins and trace elements, and a glucose monitor. The third part of the system is a mobile app that designs a personalized weekly menu, tailored to each user’s unique dietary restrictions and the readings from the device.
Yi Yoon Hee, one of the project’s contributors, believes the gadget can help curb obesity and eating disorders by providing early warnings. The device would identify nutritional gaps that contribute to these conditions, enabling earlier interventions. Testing of the prototype is planned over the next two years, with production anticipated to start in 2025. The same team also aims to develop a saliva analysis tool that measures the body’s antioxidant capacity, a key indicator of overall health and mouth health.
