In Russia, home makeovers are most often sparked by a desire for a change in atmosphere. Only a small share, about 4%, updates furniture and decor for New Year and other holidays. This pattern comes from a study by VseInstrumenty.ru, whose results were reviewed by socialbites.ca. [Citation: VseInstrumenty.ru study, reviewed by socialbites.ca].

Generally, Russians refresh their interiors every few years. Around 36% replace furniture and decor roughly every three to five years, while 26% do so less than once every five years. About 13% renew their apartments every one to three years, and 7% do so annually. Notably, one in five Russians, 18%, have never renovated or updated their home.

What drives these changes? The leading reason is simply weariness with the current look and a desire for change, cited by 45% of respondents. The second major factor is the deterioration of furniture or a loss of the new appearance, noted by 39%. A quarter of the sample renovates when moving to a new apartment. Only 4% said the interior is refreshed for holidays like the New Year. Residents in Ufa, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Yaroslavl, Voronezh, and Volgograd are more likely to create a festive mood in their homes.

Looking ahead, about 19% of Russians intend to renew furniture and decor by the end of the year, while 81% do not plan to do so. The kitchen is the top area for updates (36%), followed by the children’s room (30%), and the bedroom and wardrobe (21% each). The bathroom is a target for 18%, while 17% plan to buy home accessories and storage systems. Chandeliers and lamps will be replaced by 12%.

Spending plans reflect the varied priorities. Among those planning a refresh, 26% anticipate spending between 50,000 and 100,000 rubles. Twenty-two percent expect to invest 100,000 to 150,000 rubles, and 19% project 150,000 to 200,000 rubles. Another 21% foresee expenditures up to 50,000 rubles for apartment renovations. The remaining choices saw fewer voters, indicating a broad spread of budgets across households.

When it comes to decision making, 31% of Russians face no difficulty because they clearly know what they want. Nineteen percent turn to interior design ideas for inspiration, which helps steer selections. Seventeen percent rely on prior experience in updating their home decor, and 14% listen to bloggers. Eight percent trust reliable stores with a broad range of products that meet their needs.

There are consistent guidelines that help arrange pictures harmoniously within the home. By following practical rules and thoughtful layouts, residents can achieve a balanced aesthetic that complements their living spaces. [Citation: VseInstrumenty.ru study, reviewed by socialbites.ca].
