World of Assassination Goes on Pause for a Breath
Franchise fans have watched Hitman evolve over two decades, with some entries standing out more than others. The 2016 reboot catalyzed a highly praised arc, now known as World of Assassination, which culminated in a well received trilogy completed just weeks ago. IO Interactive appears ready to pause this chapter while it redirects energy toward new frontiers for Agent 47.
World of Assassination in Semi-Suspension
The development studio has confirmed a temporary hiatus for the Hitman line as its teams concentrate on a separate project centered on a legendary spy. Designer Christian Elverdam notes the pause allows the studio to dedicate time to a flagship effort featuring Britain’s most famous secret agent. The studio leader adds that Agent 47 still sits at the company’s core, promising that the character will return to center stage when the team is ready.
The Current Hitman Experience Continues to Evolve
Although a direct sequel to the World of Assassination saga is not in active development, the existing framework will keep evolving. The team has crafted a platform that supports ongoing experimentation with the Hitman formula and audience expectations. Elverdam explains that the platform enables ongoing refinement of the game loop while inviting fresh ideas about how to reshape the sandbox experience. In his view, there is always room to test new directions, and at a certain point the team will consider redesigning the sandbox as part of a broader creative exploration.
Awaiting Bond, James Bond
Project 007 is the working title for the upcoming James Bond initiative. The goal is to rescue and reimagine the Bond gaming experience by building an original narrative that does not rely on past films. The project is described as a complete trilogy that expands the Bond universe created by Ian Fleming in the mid twentieth century. In its presentation, the company emphasized a story that is entirely new, not a direct extension of the film series.
The studio chief describes the aim as constructing a Bond universe from the ground up, preserving the iconic identity while delivering a digitally crafted Bond. The intent is to offer an adventure that does not rely on the performances of any specific actor from the films, allowing the franchise to captivate audiences through fresh visuals and storytelling rather than familiar celebrity encodings.
