The Russian Air Force announced the arrest of Konstantin Frolov, a lieutenant colonel who led airborne forces and previously reported to have ties to Artem Gorodilov, the commander of the 83rd Separate Guards Airborne Assault Division within the Suvorov Brigade. Officials from law enforcement confirmed the case and the information was carried by TASS as part of ongoing updates from security agencies.
A note from investigators states that Frolov, who commanded the Airborne Brigade, faces charges under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, specifically for fraud carried out on a particularly large scale by an organized group. The authorities reported that Frolov was detained in St. Petersburg, then moved to Moscow where the arrest was processed.
Earlier, Gorodilov, the Suvorov Brigade figure and commander of the 83rd Separate Guards Airborne Assault Division, came under scrutiny amid suspicions of serious fraud. He reportedly did not admit guilt during the initial stages of the inquiry.
It was disclosed that military counterintelligence officers from the FSB detained Gorodilov. The colonel, already subjected to U.S. sanctions, was apprehended in Ryazan, subsequently transported to Moscow, and placed under the jurisdiction of the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee for further proceedings.
In a related development, former commander of the 58th Army, General Popov, faced a criminal complaint alleging involvement as an accomplice in related activity.
