4.3 million people with disabilities live in Spain, and their talents enrich the country. The Eurofirms Foundation launched an awareness campaign on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated on December 3. Dozens of companies joined the effort, including global firms such as Amazon. The campaign called Hello, I’m Here aims to highlight and include the talents and abilities of a group that makes up 6.2 percent of Spain’s workforce and to advance recognition across teams and society at large.
HELLO I’M HERE
Awareness stands as a central pillar in the foundation’s mission to foster inclusive workplaces. During the Week of Persons with Disabilities from late November through December 3, the Eurofirms Foundation rolled out a set of actions designed to raise awareness and expand job opportunities for people with disabilities. Despite strong interest, many people with disabilities still face barriers rooted in stereotypes that limit their access to meaningful work.
One prominent initiative in this campaign is Inclusion Dialogs, an online roundtable where four ambassadors with diverse disabilities share firsthand experiences and offer practical guidance to help workplaces feel more inclusive. The event was introduced on November 30 by Eurofirms Foundation consultant Sonia Guirado along with notable guests including snowboard instructor Astrid Fina, Isaac Padrós, president of the multicapacitats association, and Rosanna Camprubí, a professional dancer. Through open storytelling, they will illustrate how supportive environments unlock growth and achievement.
STREET ACTIONS TO SHOW THE POWER OF DIVERSITY
The campaign also includes two public art initiatives to demonstrate the strength of diversity. On the upcoming Friday in Barcelona and the following day in Madrid, 20-meter murals will be created with the participation of people with disabilities and public figures. The artworks will depict the occupations they perform, the often invisible roles they fill, and the opportunities they seek. The murals will remain in place in the subway systems of Madrid and Barcelona, reinforcing visibility over time. The project is carried out in partnership with Metro Madrid and Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona.
WORKPLACE INCLUSIVITY AGAINST DISCRIMINATION
Inclusion drives real impact by ensuring every employee has a path to growth and a sense of belonging. Recent findings show a persistent gap, with many workers with disabilities not feeling fully included at work. In response, the Eurofirms Foundation coordinates awareness campaigns like Hello I’m Here and a range of actionable programs. These efforts aim to counter stereotypes by offering training, volunteer opportunities, and practical strategies that place people first. This perspective is endorsed by Maria Jordà, managing director of the Eurofirms Foundation.
Building inclusive environments benefits the entire organization. It expands the pool of talent and supports colleagues who may gain and apply new abilities during their tenure. Industry data from leading studies indicate that disability-aware leadership correlates with stronger performance and higher customer outcomes. This aligns with global insights on diversity and inclusion.
In Spain, more than 1.8 million working-age individuals have some form of disability, representing about 6.2 percent of the workforce. Of these, roughly 638,600 are active, and around 485,900 are employed, according to national statistics. These figures underscore the ongoing need for practical inclusion strategies across all sectors and regions, including North America where inclusive practices are increasingly central to workforce success.
