In Palma, a 22-year-old man was detained by the National Police on suspicion of corrupting minors. He is accused of using a tactic known as grooming to contact a child and exchange intimate images through a social network.

The investigation, conducted by Palma Police’s Economic and Technological Crimes unit, led to the arrest. Authorities confirmed that the suspect contacted a girl who was only twelve years old through an online platform widely used on the internet.

The two began chatting regularly, and the communications included several candid photos and images. The girl’s parents soon realized what was happening and halted the contact between their daughter and the man.

The family reached out to the man and disclosed that their daughter had misrepresented her age since her early years. Nevertheless, according to the police, the young man persisted in communicating with the girl and resumed talking with her, exchanging personal material. Family members later learned that the conversation continued and decided to file a police report.

The inquiry concluded that the teenager could be targeted by someone who sought to take advantage of her. The suspect, by using strategic messaging, appears to have manipulated the girl, who feigned a genuine relationship even though they never met in person. He asserted his intent to meet and form an emotional connection, employing this as a means to coax her into sharing intimate material.

The detainee reportedly refused to heed warnings from his parents and did not respond to comments from others, which suggested that maintaining such close contact with a minor would be risky. This behavior is considered prosecutable under criminal law.

Given these circumstances, investigators presented the young man as the individual charged with corruption through the method commonly described as grooming or childcare, depending on jurisdictional terminology.

Law enforcement officers who handle these cases consistently advise parents to implement robust parental controls on their devices and social networks. Perpetrators often hide their true identities online, making it difficult for minors to identify who they are communicating with. At the same time, the intentions of other online users remain unclear. Police officials emphasize the importance of keeping personal information private and never sharing it with strangers through social networks. They also recommend avoiding close contact with people encountered online, as their true identity and motives may be unknown. Keeping profiles private on networks is advised as a precautionary measure.
