Adrián Roldán Marín, known by his unit nickname the “Green Beret,” was a 30-year-old service member who died this afternoon after an accidental gunshot wound to the chest. The incident occurred while he was carrying out cleaning and maintenance duties with a submachine gun at the headquarters of the Special Operations Command (MOE) inside the Alicante barracks. Initial reports from RabasaDefense sources identified him as a member of the MOE’s GOE unit “Valencia III.”
Roldán Marín, a native of Sant Joan d’Alacant, began his military service at Cáceres Training Center No. 1 in 2018 and joined the Special Operations Command in April 2021. Defense officials confirmed that, for reasons still under investigation, he died shortly after 1 p.m. from a bullet fired from a weapon held in his hand. The Civil Guard is leading the investigation, and a visual inspection of the barracks is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. At this stage, authorities are considering the possibility of an accidental discharge during a post-exercise cleaning and maintenance operation.
Emergency services were alerted to the scene by the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU), and an ambulance was dispatched. Despite medical teams attending to him, the guerrilla’s life could not be saved, and death was confirmed on site. Police officers also responded to Rabasa barracks. With the incident occurring within national borders, a Valencia military court judge directed the Civil Guard to undertake the investigation.
In a formal statement, the Ministry of Defense indicated that the Army is prioritizing support for the family and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time while clarifying the ongoing investigations. This tragedy underscores the constant need for rigorous safety protocols during all stages of military operations and routine maintenance activities.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, with officials emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in determining the precise sequence of events that led to this fatal accident. The incident has prompted a review of internal procedures related to weapon handling and post-exercise maintenance across facilities where MOE personnel operate, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
