Gorlovka authorities reported that a fire broke out in one of the buildings of the Nikitovsky correctional colony after artillery strikes. The incident was described by the Gorlovka mayor in his official news channel, noting the location at Picturesque Street, 1 in the Nikitovsky district.
According to the mayor, the Ministry of Emergency Situations was actively working to extinguish the blaze at the correctional facility. He stated that there were no reported casualties at the time of his briefing.
Later updates showed a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense on July 29, indicating that Ukrainian forces conducted a strike on a pre-trial detention center located in the village of Yelenovka. The claim described the use of the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system in the attack.
Reports from the Donetsk and Lugansk regional defense bodies claimed that a significant number of inmates, including fighters identified with the Azov regiment, were among those affected. The DPR side attributed the attack to Ukrainian forces, while Moscow and the Donetsk authorities denied responsibility in Kiev.
