GLS Spain has inaugurated a modern logistics center at the Ferris Wheels industrial site near Monforte del Cid, extending its existing network already spread across Alicante and Bulilla. The facility is set to raise the region’s throughput, with the capacity to process up to 8,500 packages per hour, according to GLS Spain. This expansion reflects a deliberate move to strengthen regional fulfillment capability and enhance service reliability for customers and partners alike.

The bigger footprint is paired with state‑of‑the‑art automation. The automated sorting system accelerates parcel flows, while a new reading portal improves order visibility and traceability from drop-off to final delivery. This upgrade brings tighter control over each step of the process and reinforces security measures throughout. In parallel, the site has grown by roughly 27 percent in surface area, creating additional loading and unloading zones that help streamline daily operations and reduce handling times during peak periods.

Additional enhancements include optimized lighting that improves working conditions, smart parking sensors to manage vehicle flows inside the warehouse, strategically scheduled heating, and charging stations for electric vehicles. Together, these environmental and efficiency features reduce energy consumption and emissions while elevating workplace safety and service reliability for customers across the region.

“The new center broadens our reach to more agents in Alicante, improves shipment handling, and enables tighter tracking of parcels. It also strengthens connections with key hubs along the Mediterranean corridor, representing a meaningful leap in service quality for the region,” stated Luis Doncel, Managing Director of GLS Iberia, reflecting on the facility’s strategic impact for distribution partners and end customers.

The new facilities are underpinned by a model supported by more than 20 agencies and over 200 Parcel Stores in Alicante province, aiming to absorb rising parcel volumes and optimize regional delivery routes for the coming years. This plan aligns with GLS Spain’s broader strategy to modernize its asset base and advance sustainable logistics, contributing to the goal of reducing emissions and improving efficiency as the sector moves toward lower environmental impact. The initiative also reflects a larger trend toward nearshoring and regional consolidation within the Mediterranean corridor, a factor increasingly important for customers seeking reliable, rapid fulfillment.

GLS Spain operates as a subsidiary of the German GLS group, which remains a leading player in national and international parcel, freight, and express delivery services across 40 countries. In recent cycles, the group reported strong revenue growth and growing parcel volumes, underscoring its expanding footprint and the emphasis on resilient, scalable logistics capabilities that serve both national markets and cross-border commerce.

Within Spain, the GLS network comprises roughly 600 own centers and agencies, supported by around 6,000 Parcel Shops, an armada of about 5,800 delivery vehicles, and roughly 450 long‑haul trucks. GLS Spain now employs around 1,600 professionals who coordinate operations across the region, creating a robust backbone for regional delivery, e‑commerce fulfillment, and heavy parcel volume during seasonal peaks. This workforce, paired with the expanded infrastructure, is positioned to improve delivery speed, reduce dwell times, and enhance overall customer satisfaction across the Spanish market.
