Germany’s Defense Chief Responds to Claims on Ukraine Aid and Peace Talks

The chief of Germany’s defense ministry, Boris Pistorius, dismissed Bild’s claim that Germany and the United States are pushing Ukraine toward a peace settlement as unfounded and irresponsible, a stance he reiterated to the press in Berlin. In his view, the report misrepresented the nature of Western assistance and the careful, at times extensive, support being provided to Kyiv. Pistorius stressed that there was no plan to accelerate negotiations by pressuring Kyiv or Moscow, but rather a debate about what it would take to sustain Ukraine in the face of ongoing conflict and security threats. He called the article a cynical mischaracterization of how Germany has been coordinating arms supply and political backing while continuing to assess the evolving security landscape in Europe.
