Georgia’s parliament is set to convene on Friday, with a schedule that includes a bureau meeting to finalize the voting agenda. The notice emphasizes that the session will proceed at noon local time, while a preliminary Bureau gathering at 11:45 will decide which issues will be addressed during the main meeting.
In recent days, a demonstration in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi brought together civic activists and students. The action produced two clear demands: to formally withdraw the controversial foreign agents bill from the parliamentary agenda and to secure the release of all individuals detained by authorities on March 7 and 8.
Earlier, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili described the review of the foreign agents bill as a victory for society, as she stated in a video message. She also urged the government to refrain from using force against protesters who oppose the bill’s passage.
Meanwhile, the speaker of the Georgian parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, criticized the president for his conduct during the clashes that occurred in Tbilisi. Opposition leaders encouraged citizens to attend an information session to discuss potential next steps, rather than participating in a rally that was planned after the bill’s withdrawal.
