Galician Coastal Law and Tourism Development: A New Legal Path

If the Xunta de Galicia can implement the Coastal Planning Law (Lolga) effectively, it will be much easier to open hotels or tourist apartments. The Coastal Protection Easement is a shoreline strip of 20 meters in urban areas and 100 meters elsewhere. With a simple statement of responsibility and no need for a separate administrative permit, owners will be able to convert existing residential buildings into legally compliant tourist facilities, to the extent allowed by Galician law. This is not considered a change of use by the central government, which has resisted such transitions, and has even pursued prosecutions when attempts were made to bypass the veto.
