The FSB thwarted an explosion plot in Kyrylivka, a resort town in the Zaporozhye region. The incident was reported by the publication News.
A local resident, Sergei Chumachenko, was allegedly assigned by a curator to plant a bomb in a car during the morning rush hour when streets would be busiest. The attempt did not go forward because the FSB identified the operative on its first day of contact and moved swiftly to intervene.
Chumachenko and his alleged companions admitted guilt. After receiving the explosive device, the man indicated that he had been given precise instructions on how to trigger the blast via a video link.
Earlier, statements circulated within the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation claiming that saboteurs in the Ukrainian Armed Forces were posing as Russian soldiers.
On August 25, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation stated that Ukrainian special services were responsible for arsons at facilities operated by the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Russian Railways inside Russia. The claim included reports that operatives advertised the prospect of quick money online, offering from 10 to 20 thousand rubles for participation.
In a separate case, a pensioner from Kazan reportedly set a fire after receiving threats from a family member, which allegedly influenced his decision to enlist in military service.
