A 61-year-old French woman was detained after an incident at a children’s soccer match for six-year-olds in Alcobendas, near Madrid. Police confirmed the arrest followed an event at the venue, where concerned spectators and staff reported the sighting of a firearm in the hands of a woman during the prebenjamins game held on a Friday evening.
Witnesses described that around 7:15 pm a gathering of attendees at the field on Manuel de Falla Street witnessed the woman brandishing a gun while the young players prepared for the match. In the moments that followed, bystanders including two off-duty National Police officers intervened to restrain the individual until uniformed officers could arrive. The operation proceeded smoothly, and the crowd helped ensure the suspect did not pose an immediate threat to others while awaiting official intervention.
Upon security assessment and immediate search, authorities recovered two firearms with live rounds. In addition, investigators collected 12 loose cartridges, four flares, and a can of pepper spray, all of which were found at the scene and within the suspect’s possession. Reports indicate the woman wore a disguise at the time, including a wig, sunglasses, and other clothing to conceal her appearance.
The detained individual was taken for medical evaluation at Infanta Sofía Hospital following an initial on-site examination. The case was then referred to the hospital’s psychiatric unit for a comprehensive assessment and ongoing care planning as part of the standard custody procedures in such incidents.
