France Faces Record Wildfires as International Help Arrives

Flames surged again across France, with the Gironde region in the southwest already reeling from a new wave of fires. Since Tuesday night, a major blaze has burned through the area around Hostens, about 60 kilometers south of Bordeaux. Officials reported that the fire had consumed roughly 6,800 hectares by Thursday morning and continued to spread. President Emmanuel Macron announced international cooperation, saying Germany, Greece, Poland, Romania, Austria, and Italy would assist French firefighters under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
