In Vigo, a traffic accident on a Wednesday afternoon left four people injured, one of them seriously. Preliminary information indicates that the driver, an elderly man around 70, may have experienced some discomfort behind the wheel. His car, bearing number 80 on Avenida de la Florida, veered off the roadway and struck pedestrians who were waiting for a bus in a sheltered bus stop area.
Eyewitnesses described the vehicle losing control and careening toward the sidewalk, where it collided with a passerby on the pavement before hitting the canopy that shields the bus stop. Among those nearby, a pedestrian managed to jump onto the road at the last moment to avoid the oncoming car, narrowly escaping a more severe outcome. The scene unfolded quickly, with glass, debris, and plastic fragments scattered across the immediate area as the vehicle came to a halt.
Two of the injured were transported to hospital care: a man and a woman who were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, and who required immediate medical attention. Their exact destinations were reported as Povisa and another major local center, while the remaining injured person was taken to a different hospital facility for observation and treatment. The day’s events left responders focusing on stabilizing victims and securing the area to prevent further harm.
The incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. on a Wednesday, with the canopy’s upper structure found partially embedded in the car. In addition to the immediate damage to the vehicle and canopy, several parked cars on Ponte da Veiga street also sustained window damage as a consequence of the accident.
Emergency teams arrived promptly at the scene, joining the Vigo Fire Department, Local Police, and medical personnel who worked together to assess injuries, secure the site, and assist those affected by the collision. Investigators began documenting the scene, collecting eyewitness statements, and reviewing nearby surveillance footage to determine the sequence of events and identify contributing factors. While no official cause had been released at the time, officials stressed the importance of a careful and thorough inquiry to understand the driver’s condition and any underlying health issues.
