Four aluniceros arrested after a high-speed chase through Madrid

Police officers from the National Police San Blas precinct detained four individuals after a dramatic sequence that culminated in multiple arrests and the seizure of potentially stolen items. The incident unfolded last Friday, with police sources in Madrid confirming the events to Europa Press.

The confrontation began in the early hours when a security patrol noted suspicious activity at around 2:10 a.m. in the Valdebernardo area of Vicálvaro. A BMW vehicle was observed moving slowly yet without the usual diligence expected by local residents, raising concerns among nearby neighbors who reported the actions to authorities.

Officers soon tracked the occupants and attempted to pull the car over as it accelerated away from the stop. The pursuit proceeded onto the M-40 and down Ladera de los Almendros street, with the suspects showing little regard for traffic laws or the safety of pedestrians. The chase extended through several streets in the vicinity as the individuals inside the car attempted to evade arrest, putting bystanders at risk.

The vehicle ignored multiple orders from law enforcement, ultimately colliding with a taxi along Albufera Boulevard at the 16th kilometer marker of the M-40. The taxi driver sustained minor injuries, but the patrol immediately contained the scene and prevented the suspects from fleeing on foot. All occupants were detained at the location.

A male driver managed to escape briefly before the officers apprehended him. He has been identified as a 36-year-old Spaniard named Eduardo García Fernández, who already has an extensive police record with 49 entries. He is commonly known by the aliases Ed, Boo Boo, and Rafita, a name sometimes connected in local lore to a family involved in prior criminal activity.

The other arrestees, all Spanish, include a 23-year-old with a history of ten property-related charges; a 25-year-old with 14 investigations on his record; and a 41-year-old who has accumulated 32 arrests for theft and related offenses. Investigators suspect the seized vehicle contained tools typically used in burglary, such as screwdrivers, keys, gloves, and assorted tool kits. The police are conducting a follow-up inquiry to determine whether a planned robbery of a local business occurred or was intended.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about vehicle-based crime in urban Madrid and the challenges faced by officers in preventing harm to residents during high-speed pursuits. (Europa Press)
