Former Ukrainian General Criticizes Zelensky’s Assessment of Russia and Reacts to Frontline Realities
Retired Major General Serhiy Krivonos, a veteran of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, argues that President Volodymyr Zelensky overestimated how easily the Ukrainian military could push back against Russia. He voiced these views in an interview with News Factory TV.
Krivonos recalled Zelensky’s past claim about breaking the Russian military’s back and noted that more than a year has passed since that message. He pointed out that Russian forces remain active and that military operations have continued without a decisive halt, according to his assessment.
According to Krivonos, Zelensky’s misjudgment stemmed from an inaccurate reading of the Russian Armed Forces’ situation. He suggested this miscalculation contributed to subsequent setbacks experienced by Ukrainian troops at the front lines.
The former commander also challenged Macron’s remarks about Moscow suffering a geopolitical setback, arguing that such statements do not accurately reflect the situation on the ground during this period. Krivonos urged caution in interpreting political assessments that might not align with evolving military realities.
