The former coordinator of a youth football program in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda has been arrested for the third time on a Friday morning. He previously served at a children’s football school associated with a local sports club, and is accused of sexually abusing minors while employed there. He was dismissed from his position following initial investigations.
The 28-year-old former coach of Santa Perpètua de Mogoda’s Unification Football Club (UCF) faces multiple charges as authorities pursue a pattern of alleged abuse. Investigators are examining whether the individual harmed additional youths connected to the town’s female youth soccer teams.
The first arrest occurred on January 11, after a former student reported an incident dating back to 2014. The second arrest followed on April 17 when another minor disclosed abuse that purportedly occurred in December 2022. Catalan police continued pursuing other potential allegations as new information emerged.
On Friday morning, the man was taken into custody again, with sources indicating the new facts are not connected to the prior cases. It remains unclear whether the latest arrest stems from a third complaint or from ongoing police inquiries.
Following today’s arrest, the suspect is detained at the Mossos d’Esquadra station in Sabadell (in the Barcelona area) and awaits further judicial action in the coming days.
According to the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), after the initial arrest in Mollet, a court granted parole in an open case involving the sexual assault of a minor under 16. In a separate case, a Sabadell Court of Inquiry had previously granted parole in April after the second arrest, accompanied by precautionary measures including passport withdrawal, a ban from leaving the area, and a stipulated distance of at least 1,000 meters from the alleged victim, along with a prohibition on all forms of communication with that person. A special prohibition on engaging in any profession or activity that involves regular contact with minors was also ordered.
Two distinct judicial bodies are handling the cases, as investigators suspect the offenses may have occurred at different locations and times. Francisco Torres, president of Santa Perpètua de Mogoda UCF, explained that Mossos notified the club of a complaint in mid-January, which led to the man’s dismissal for a serious violation. The club’s leadership acted promptly to sever ties with the individual after learning of the allegations.
Authorities have indicated that the alleged sexual assaults may have involved circumstances in Turkey, related to the sporting environment. This does not imply that the incidents occurred within the club’s premises, but rather that the broader context of competitive sport has been considered in the investigation.
