Forecast: Much of Russia to see unseasonably cool weather next week
New climate outlooks show that temperatures across roughly eight tenths of Russia may stay below typical seasonal levels as the coming week unfolds. With spring on the calendar in about three weeks, officials stress that it is too soon to declare the season sprung. Forecasters anticipate that large parts of the country will endure unusually cool weather on Friday and through the weekend, with readings staying under the usual average for this time of year.
In the European portion of Russia, the central region is forecast to record temperatures 12 to 14 degrees below the climatic norm. Early in the week, some areas might feel relatively mild for the season, but a distinct cooling trend is expected as the days pass. Across the Urals, as well as western and central Siberia, temperatures are expected to drop 8 to 14 degrees below normal, signaling a prolonged cold spell. In contrast, the Far East, including Yakutia and Magadan, is projected to show a more modest deviation, about 4 to 6 degrees below average.
Vilfand added that the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, together with Crimea, should see readings near normal. Early in the week, residents may enjoy springlike comfort, yet temperatures are forecast to ease toward regional averages by Friday. He also noted that Irkutsk, the Amur region, and Transbaikal areas could experience modestly above-normal readings by 2 to 3 degrees, creating regional variation within the broader pattern. In the Moscow region, locals have been discussing the possibility of sharp frosts, with forecasts projecting nightly temperatures dipping to notably frigid levels by the end of the workweek, potentially reaching -25 degrees in some districts. Such variability underscores the need for practical planning in daily life and travel, as cold snaps can affect commutes, outdoor activities, and utility usage.
Earlier updates from the Rostov region mentioned disruptions to rail services due to adverse weather. The latest outlook emphasizes preparedness across multiple sectors as authorities monitor evolving conditions and issue advisories to minimize disruption and safeguard travelers and residents alike. The public is advised to follow official channels for the latest warnings, road conditions, and transport updates, ensuring safe travel and minimal delays as conditions change across the country.
