His note highlighted that at the city’s central weather observatory at VDNKh, the minimum reached +21.8°C. He added that a cooler spell is expected on Monday afternoon, signaling a shift in conditions after a night of unusually high warmth.
The broader forecast had already indicated that Moscow would not experience a return to typical cooling during the coming weekend. During a press briefing, Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecast center, described a future cold front bringing showers and a thunderstorm. This event would interrupt the current pattern and introduce more dynamic weather in the capital region.
Shuvalov further explained that the climate would not appear as a simple, flat trend. Temperature ranges are unlikely to align uniformly across the middle latitudes, suggesting variability from day to day and from year to year. Roman Vilfand, the scientific director of Russia’s Hydrometeorological Center, projected abnormally hot weather in several zones during the week ahead. He noted that extreme heat could surpass long-term norms by four to six degrees in regions including the Volga area, the Urals, Western Siberia, Krasnoyarsk Territory, and Yakutia. The geographic spread of heat would not be uniform, with some locales experiencing more intense warmth than others, reinforcing the theme of regional divergence in climate patterns.
