In the village of Ilyinka in Chita District, heavy rains and the failure of a dam led to widespread flooding. A total of 110 houses and 127 plots of land were inundated, affecting a community that included 290 residents. The incident was reported by the district prosecutor’s office through telegraph channels and is now under official scrutiny. The supervising authority has begun a formal investigation to determine how the disaster unfolded and to assess the adequacy of the response by relevant agencies. The focus includes evaluating actions taken to prevent the emergency and to mitigate its impact, as well as the effectiveness of assistance provided to the victims.

During the night from July 5 to July 6, the Kruchina River flooded the village of Ilyinka following heavy rainfall and the dam collapse. The prosecutor’s office stated that 127 plots of land and 110 houses were submerged, communities with a total of 290 inhabitants. The inquiry will review the procedures followed by authorized bodies and will emphasize the protection of residents and timely support for those affected.

Earlier, in the early hours of June 14, intense rainfall extended from the Russian-Abkhazian border into the Sochi and Gagra regions. The Matsesta River overtopped its banks, flooding several homes and causing a rupture in a natural gas pipeline. As a precautionary measure, officials in Sochi closed beaches and prohibited swimming in the sea. In Abkhazia, a portion of the road linking Gagra and Sukhum was submerged. Details about the emergency were reported by local outlets.

Subsequent assessments indicated that as waters receded, additional damage persisted, with 22 houses in Sochi sustaining damage from the flooding. Authorities indicated that the situation is being monitored and that relief operations continued where needed. In Vladikavkaz, a state of emergency had been declared previously, reflecting broader regional concerns about flood risk and emergency preparedness.
