A fire broke out in an annex south of the city of St. Petersburg, reported by the Main Directorate of Russia EMERCOM for the city.
At 00:01 Moscow time on August 31, a call came in about the blaze in the Pushkinsky district. The fire originated in an outbuilding measuring 20 by 20 meters and involved adjacent construction cabins. The total area affected was 250 square meters.
Six units of firefighting equipment and 30 emergency personnel from the Ministry of Emergency Situations battled the flames. Firefighters faced added difficulty working on 1-BIS, a configuration noted for its increased complexity.
By 01:14 Moscow time the fire had been localized. There were no reported casualties.
According to Ivan Sovetnikov, former president of Rosleskhoz, the season’s forest fires in Russia have consumed about 4.3 million hectares, roughly one third more than last year. Since the start of 2023, control measures have reduced burnable areas by 94.5 million hectares, while earlier fires could not be extinguished due to economic constraints.
Images and reports describe a burning vehicle along the Plevako embankment as part of ongoing firefighting activity. The incident underscores ongoing challenges in forest fire management and response readiness in the region.
