Fire in Kremenchug shopping center

During a morning update, the defense ministry described ongoing strikes by the Russian armed forces against Ukrainian military facilities. A spokesman stated that the Russian Aerospace Forces targeted hangars in Kremenchug with precision air-based weapons, using munitions supplied by Western nations. The attack reportedly hit Western-made weapons intended for deployment to Ukrainian troops in the Donbas region, triggering a fire at a nearby mall that was not in use at the time.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media that Russia fired missiles at a shopping center housing more than a thousand civilians. He described the scene as the building on fire and rescuers working to extinguish the blaze, noting an unimaginable number of casualties and stressing that the location did not hold strategic value.

In response, a Russian diplomat to the United Nations characterized the Kremenchug incident as a Ukrainian provocation aimed at shifting attention toward the NATO summit in Brussels.

Friendly fire

At the briefing, the defense ministry also claimed that joint actions by Russian troops and allied militia forces had produced significant losses for Ukrainian forces. The space forces reported several strikes against Ukrainian troop deployments in Kharkiv, resulting in numerous Ukrainian and foreign mercenary fatalities and the destruction of armored vehicles and other equipment.

Officials attributed the rising incidents of accidental fire to the limited training and preparedness of mobilized Ukrainian personnel and to the inexperience of foreign mercenaries. Reports described instances where Ukrainian troops accidentally opened fire on their own units in separate engagements, causing casualties among Ukrainian soldiers and injuring others.

Precision strikes

The defense ministry stated that the Russian air force conducted operations in the Donetsk and Luhansk directions, targeting command centers, brigades, and multiple districts. They reported destroying command posts, artillery units, and mortar positions, along with weapons caches and military vehicles belonging to Ukrainian forces.

According to the ministry, air defense systems shot down several Ukrainian aircraft and helicopters in the Nikolaev region, and additional Ukrainian air units were neutralized. It was claimed that several missiles and multiple rocket launchers were captured by Russian forces, with ongoing efforts to neutralize remaining threats.

The report noted ongoing coordination among Russian aviation, rocket troops, and artillery units in striking 24 command posts, 58 districts, and numerous military assets across the involved regions.

Witness accounts from included regions described air defense successes and the downing of several aircraft, along with the destruction of a number of enemy missiles and launchers. These claims were presented as part of a broader assessment of daily operational activity in the region.

HIMARS deployment

On a separate update, Ukrainian authorities reported the use of long-range Western supplied missiles in active operations. The eastern front reportedly involved the use of a modern multiple launch rocket system in the Perevalsk direction, with the Ukrainian defense ministry confirming the arrival of Western long-range systems earlier in the month. Comments from regional militias suggested that such weapons enable Ukrainian forces to strike distant targets, including areas close to the border with the Russian Federation.

Official observers commented that the introduction of these systems compels adversaries to adapt their defensive measures. They warned that the weapons could carry substantial impact on civilian infrastructure as well as the broader conflict landscape. Movement of the launch system and related vehicles was monitored by regional authorities, with plans laid to neutralize remaining capabilities in the near term.
