A house fire forced a large evacuation in the Carolinas district of Alicante, with authorities confirming that a significant number of people were treated for smoke inhalation. Among those affected were some police officers who had responded to the emergency, as well as residents nearby. Rapid radio patrols of the Citizens’ Attention Group helped keep the situation under control and prevented it from escalating into a broader crisis. (Source: Alicante Police)
The incident unfolded around 1:20 a.m. on Padre Espla street, on the first floor of a flat at number two. Representatives of the Citizen Service Group were the first on the scene, reporting flames and heavy smoke billowing from a window. As they approached the apartment where the fire had started, they encountered a neighbor who was trying to assist the resident who lived there. Inside, a 61-year-old woman was rescued but chose to stay and attempt to extinguish the blaze herself until firefighters arrived. Ultimately, the officers had to remove her from the home against her will to ensure her safety and to allow emergency crews access. All residents of the building, including two babies on another floor, were evacuated to a safe distance. (Source: Alicante Police)
Firefighters arrived shortly after and acted swiftly to contain and extinguish the flames. The fire was brought under control, preventing spread to other units in the building. The facade suffered heavy smoke damage visible from the window, though the structural integrity of surrounding homes remained intact. (Source: Alicante Police)
Police sources indicated that the woman living in the affected apartment and the neighbor who attempted to help both received on-site medical attention for breathing difficulties and smoke exposure. A woman described as panicked also experienced a distress reaction during the incident. The officers who took part in the evacuation were treated at the scene by emergency medical teams due to smoke inhalation. Once the flames were extinguished and the building properly ventilated, residents were allowed to return to their homes. All reported damages were confined to material losses rather than structural harm. (Source: Alicante Police)
