A young girl lost her life in a fire that broke out at a bungalow within the Montblanc campground in Tarragon. An early morning fire report arrived at 04:55, signaling a blaze at the campsite. Firefighters from the Generalitat Fire Brigade moved quickly, deploying five units and coordinating a total of fifteen personnel to confront the flames and protect nearby structures.
When the first crews arrived, they found a bungalow deeply engulfed in flames, its interior temperatures scorching the air and the structure burning with alarming intensity. The rest of the campers began evacuating on their own, trying to reach safety as smoke thickened the air. At the outset, a child was reported missing, prompting search efforts both outside and around the perimeter of the fire. Firefighters conducted systematic checks and, after fire suppression was underway, entered the bungalow at 06:16 once the flames had been brought under control. Inside, they discovered the young victim already unresponsive. The fire completely destroyed the bungalow and caused severe damage to a second bungalow, with other nearby cabins sustaining partial effects through heat and smoke damage.
The Medical Emergency Service, SEM, activated three donations of response resources to support the operation and began delivering psychological help to the family affected by the tragedy. The incident drew the involvement of Mossos d’Esquadra, who led the formal investigation into the fire’s origins and circumstances. A total of six patrols were deployed as part of the investigative and protective measures surrounding the scene.
In addition, the Generalidad Fire Department’s Medical Emergency Group, GEM, activated psychological support for the professionals who participated in the service, addressing the emotional and mental health needs of responders who faced a highly stressful and traumatic scene. The coordinated actions of emergency teams, police investigators, and support services reflected a comprehensive response designed to protect residents, assist witnesses, and support the community as investigators work to determine the cause of the fire and the sequence of events that led to the loss of life.
