Early this evening a fatal incident occurred at El Campello station on the tram line that runs toward Benidorm. A man was struck by a tram, causing a sudden halt to traffic along the rail corridor and disrupting service for passengers traveling between key destinations in the region.
The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. at a stop that serves Amerador, located between Pueblo Español and Coveta Fumà. The tram operator observed the person near the tracks and attempted to brake, but the tram could not stop in time to prevent the collision. The impact tragically claimed the life of the pedestrian on site.
Emergency responders arrived promptly. The Civil Guard was dispatched to the scene and began a formal investigation into the incident. A judicial commission was notified as investigations continued, and work to recover the body proceeded. As a result, the rail service on the Alicante to Benidorm line was temporarily suspended to allow for investigation and cleanup operations.
Authorities are reviewing the sequence of events to determine whether the person entered the tramway area while the vehicle was approaching Amerador station. The investigation will consider factors such as the visibility on the track, lighting conditions, and any possible environmental or traffic-related influences that could have contributed to the tragedy. Updates will be provided as the case develops and more information becomes available. [Civil Guard report] [Local investigative authorities]
