A Kaliningrad fish shop owner faced a sudden double blow when he lost his job and his car within a matter of days, a development the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed. The sequence of events began with a blaze at a fish shop on Mashinostroitelnaya Street in the regional capital. On September 11, a shopping pavilion owned by a 46-year-old businesswoman burned to the ground, with the damage pegged at 2.7 million rubles. In the aftermath, investigators opened a criminal case under the charge of Intentional damage or damage to property through arson, signaling strong suspicions of deliberate action.
Two days later, on September 13, in the village of Druzhny within the Guryevsky district, an unidentified individual set fire to a Mercedes-Benz G 320 belonging to the shop’s owner. Firefighters arrived promptly, yet a suspicious person obstructed their efforts to douse the flames. The resulting arson destroyed a vehicle valued at more than 700 thousand rubles, and the suspect was arrested by police soon afterward. He turned out to be the victim’s 51-year-old ex-husband, previously convicted, and was taken into custody as the investigation progressed.
Further details revealed that the motive extended beyond a single act of revenge. The same suspect, who had entered the neighborhood to target his ex-wife, initiated a second fire through his own initiative. An acquaintance from the Bagrationovsky district helped carry out the plan of revenge. The accomplice supplied a spray bottle, and together they poured gasoline inside the residence before one of them struck a flame with a lighter, triggering the blaze.
Authorities say the investigation is actively unraveling the circumstances surrounding both incidents. They are combing for additional evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the full context of the arsons and the relationships between those involved. The case remains open as police work to establish a clear sequence of events and identify any further connections or motives that may shed light on these alarming fires.
The situation underscores the ongoing concern for public safety in the region, as law enforcement continues to piece together the timeline, confirm the identities involved, and assess any broader implications for local businesses and residents. The focus remains on thorough investigative work to ensure accountability and prevent future harm to the community.
