Fatal Arkhangelsk Fire: Arson Suspect in Custody as Investigators Probe

A fatal fire swept through a two-story wooden house on Emelyan Pugachev Street in Arkhangelsk, affecting residents of the Arkhangelsk region and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. A 50-year-old woman with a disability died from inhalation and poisoning caused by smoke and combustion products. Investigators have opened a criminal case under the article for murder committed in a generally dangerous manner, signaling a serious probe into the incident.

According to a Telegram channel cited by Basis, the arson was carried out by a man who had left his military unit in Severodvinsk on April 7. After reaching the district headquarters, he attended a gathering with a colleague’s spouse. A dispute occurred during the celebration, leading to his expulsion from the company. In a moment of revenge, he reportedly set fire to a baby carriage in the hallway on the first floor, sparking the blaze that engulfed the building.

Seven occupants managed to escape the flames, but the fire rapidly spread through the structure. In addition to the deceased woman, a seven-year-old boy sustained injuries in the incident. The case continues as investigators work to uncover all relevant facts and circumstances, with the suspect currently in custody as the inquiry proceeds.

Earlier, a separate case in Buryatia reported that a resident burned a residential building with eight flats in an effort to harm an ex-partner, a reminder of the gravity and danger posed by such acts.
