The Family and Women’s Unit (UFAM) within the National Police Headquarters has begun a formal inquiry into the actions of several individuals connected to a serious case involving minors and the distribution of explicit material. Investigators identified two underage suspects, aged 12 and 13, along with an adult man and an adult woman. The focus is on the dissemination of a sexually explicit video that features a person under the age of fourteen via the WhatsApp messaging platform.

A mother who is the primary caregiver of the victim, a minor under fourteen, reported to the General Directorate in detail the events. She explained that her daughter had moved in social circles with a group of acquaintances where the explicit video circulated. The mother learned of the situation through conversations with others, including one of the girl’s peers within that circle, who became aware of the video’s existence.

The minor’s mother noted that she first learned about the video during a phone call from a parent who would later be identified as one of the individuals who uploaded the footage. This connection helped authorities trace the sequence of events leading to the distribution of the video.

‘Truth or Dare’

The victim’s mother described the incident as having begun as a schoolyard game of truth or dare that quickly escalated into a threatening situation. One of the minors allegedly threatened the victim with death if she refused to post the sexually explicit material. The video then circulated in a WhatsApp group that counted more than twenty-five members, amplifying its reach and impact on the victim’s life.

The investigation, led by the Family and Women’s Unit of the La Rioja High Headquarters, is focused on identifying those responsible for sharing the content. Authorities are seeking to determine the roles of the two underage participants, the 12-year-old and the 13-year-old, along with the adult individuals who were involved. The case raises questions about criminal liability and the appropriate application of the law to actions that include the distribution of explicit images of minors and the use of threats to coerce participation.

In these proceedings, investigators are carefully distinguishing between the actions of the younger suspects, who are not legally liable for some offenses due to their age, and the adults who may bear responsibility for crimes such as distributing sexually explicit images of a minor and issuing threats. The ongoing process aims to establish the sequence of events, identify all participants and assess potential charges in line with regional statutes and guidelines.
