Family Abuse Cases Highlight Juvenile Safety Concerns in Irkutsk Region

A 32-year-old man from Irkutsk received a five-year prison sentence after torturing his partner’s four-year-old daughter. The authorities in the Irkutsk region reported the case, noting the severity of the abuse and its impact on the child.

According to investigators, the man assaulted the girl, coercing her to stand on peas, which caused her considerable pain and inflicted emotional distress. The incident came to light after a grocery store employee, who witnessed a conversation with the boy, documented the abuse, prompting authorities to open a criminal investigation.

In a separate, long-running case, a 15-year-old student reported to teachers that he faced regular corporal punishment and harassment within the family environment. The student prepared a note for the school head describing that his father repeatedly struck him, forced him to squat hundreds of times, hurled textbooks, and shouted insults. This testimony indicated a pattern of abuse and fear that extended into the home.

The student is known to be battling bone cancer and has recently undergone chemotherapy, with medical teams reporting a period of remission. This added medical context underscores the vulnerability of the child involved in the school-related concerns.

When the school administration invited the mother to address the allegations, she did not attend the meeting. In defense, the father claimed that his son exaggerated some of the events, admitting the squats but denying any beating. Authorities, however, maintained the seriousness of the boy’s claims and pursued formal proceedings to protect the child.
