Family Abuse Case Prompts Police Action and Systemic Review

For four years, two siblings aged twelve to fourteen endured repeated sexual abuse at the hands of a 71-year-old man who was a family friend and allegedly benefited from the arrangement. Their mother, whose custody had been withdrawn, reported the abuse to the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS), an agency affiliated with the Consell de Mallorca, on eight separate occasions. In these reports, authorities noted the concerns but did not reach a conclusive remedy at the time. Recently, following a warning from the mother, officials from the Conselleria de Serveis Socials filed a police complaint. This week, investigators arrested both the attacker and the father involved in the case.
