Familia Torres is entering a new chapter as it advances a planned generational transition. The winery, among the country’s leading producers, will see the current chief executive step aside as part of an orderly succession agreed upon by the board of advisors. Miquel Torres Maczassek is positioned to succeed his father as president, stepping up as the next head of the Torres family business.

The transition designates the new president to begin duties immediately while staying closely connected to ongoing operations. He will undertake a year of targeted training, review strategic projects, and assess the group’s diverse business ventures. During this period, he will continue to participate actively in the advisory board, ensuring continuity and informed guidance for the board and executive team alike.

The leadership handover aligns with the timing of the general manager selection, a process that will identify the successor to drive daily operations once the new president assumes full responsibility. Miquel A. Torres will maintain senior management duties during the interim period to support a smooth, stable transition and sustained performance across the company.

Miquel Torres Maczassek brings a robust educational foundation to the role. He earned a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Esade and is affiliated with the Kenan-Flagler Business School. His oenology studies were completed at Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona, Spain, complemented by insights gained from programs in North Carolina. The blend of finance, management, and winemaking education equips him to lead a globally recognized family business with deep roots in viticulture and innovation.

His early professional path included roles in consumer products before joining the family enterprise in 2001 as winery manager. He subsequently oversaw notable initiatives at Jean Leon and then advanced to the position of Marketing Director for Familia Torres. Under his leadership, growth initiatives expanded across regions including Priorat, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Rioja, and Rías Baixas, reinforcing the winery’s international footprint and portfolio diversity.

Prior to taking on broader responsibilities, Miguel Torres Chile provided him with hands-on experience in winemaking operations. Since 2012, Miquel A. Torres has served as global managing director of Familia Torres, guiding the group through a period of expansion and strategic development. The forthcoming leadership transition signals a continuation of this legacy while positioning the wineries for the next generation to carry forward more than 150 years of history and craftsmanship.

As this change unfolds, the company emphasizes steady leadership, sustained quality, and a commitment to innovation in both agriculture and business practices. The incoming president will steer the group toward future growth while honoring the traditions that have defined Familia Torres for decades. The family and the board view the transition as a natural evolution—one that respects the company’s heritage while embracing new perspectives and opportunities for continued excellence in winemaking and international markets.
