An explosion rocked a pyrotechnics facility in Vallinas, Cangas del Narcea, Asturias, just after 9 in the morning, startling residents nearby. One worker, a 41-year-old from Cangas del Narcea who was employed by the company, did not survive the incident. The blast sent shockwaves through the village and drew the attention of emergency services within minutes.

The accident occurred at a storage shed within the powder and explosive materials area managed by Pirotecnia Pablo, the well-known local firm based in Vallinas. Firefighters from the Cangas del Narcea park, along with the Civil Guard and ambulance crews, rushed to the scene to confirm there were no additional injuries and to secure the area as long as needed.

Initially, several ambulances were listed for the accident, but after an initial survey of the terrain it was determined that there were no other affected workers. In the chaotic moments after the explosion, there was concern that another employee could be trapped, a possibility that rapid assessment helped to dispel.

The incident happened in a shed used to store gunpowder and other explosive materials. The shed was completely destroyed by the blast, and early reports indicate that the deceased was found among the debris. The Civil Guard reported that the worker was reportedly preparing powder for use in pyrotechnics at the time of the explosion. The force of the blast prompted the deployment of Security Civilian staff, Gedex, Arms Intervention, and Judicial Police to the site.

Residents in the vicinity recalled hearing the explosion around 9:15 a.m., describing it as very loud. The mayor of Cangas del Narcea, José Luis Fontaniella, also traveled to the area to monitor the situation and coordinate with authorities.
