Aiming for rapid progress, the Tourism Department is moving quickly to present the new tourist housing law for the Valencian Community. The head of the department, Nuria Montes, met this morning with sector representatives to finalize the main axes of the regulation that seeks to curb the proliferation of tourist apartments. In short, the Valencian government plans to delegate powers to municipalities to oversee both openings and supervision of a supply that has surged since the pandemic.
The challenges already visible in certain neighborhoods are pushing cities to act. Valencia, the capital, is undergoing a moratorium that has sharpened attention from administration and business alike. Accordingly, the Tourism Department convened this morning in Alicante hotel, apartment, and development representatives to tighten the definitive outline of what will become the revised regulation on tourism housing in the Valencian Community. The lines of the reform are taking shape.
Before summer ends
Montes stated that in a matter of days it will be possible to begin detailing the content of the new decree once the specifics regarding services and the features these homes must have are finalized. The regulation under active development by the regional government could be approved before summer.
The meeting confirmed the sector’s clear consensus to equip the regulation with greater clarity, security, and higher expectations for those who professionally manage tourist rentals of housing. Turisme Comunitat Valenciana is working on amending the housing regulations, preparing a set of measures that will enhance regulation and contribute to reducing the informal economy and addressing the broader issue of tourism-related friction.
