Everything is Lie: Madrid presidential debate to air on television with four main party candidates
The upcoming televised event in the Community of Madrid will be the first in a series titled Everything is Lie. Moderated by Risto Mejide, the debate is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 9, and will feature representatives from the four major political forces taking part in the regional elections. Isabel Diaz Ayuso and the Dew Monastery will not be in attendance. The program promises a candid exchange among the leading figures in Madrid politics as campaigns begin to take shape on a national stage.
The debate takes place just three days after the official start of the campaign period. It will showcase interventions from each candidate at their respective podiums. Alfonso Serrano, the second on the list led by Isabel Diaz Ayuso, serves as the general secretary of the Madrid People’s Party. Juan Lobato represents the PSOE, Monica García stands for More Madrid, and Alejandra Jacinto competes under Podemos. This lineup brings together the major political currents currently vying for influence in the capital region.
The discussion will unfold across six thematic blocks, introduced by Martha Flich. The opening block aims to contextualize the significance of this electoral moment, with candidates stepping to the microphone in a sequence determined by a lottery. The guiding question asks why these elections are pivotal for the future of the government led by Pedro Sánchez on a national scale, and for the governance of Madrid as a key autonomous community in Spain.
Subsequent blocks will address five core themes: Economy and Taxes; Health, Youth, and Housing; Environment; and Post-Election Agreements. After the main segments, each participant will be granted a Golden Minute, delivered in the reverse order of their representation in parliament. This format is designed to provide a concise closing reflection from every candidate, ensuring balance in the final moments of the broadcast.
The program team is tasked with fact-checking the accuracy of statements presented by the candidates during their appearances. In case of disputes over verifiable data or claims, the Everything is Lie verification unit may be consulted to confirm the information. If a claim is contested, the team will communicate the verified result to the audience during the live debate, maintaining transparency about the facts under discussion. Regular collaborators Antonio Castelo and Virginia Riezu will join the broadcast as commentators, providing additional context and analysis during the face-to-face portion of the debate. Their insights are expected to contribute a dynamic, sometimes provocative, perspective that helps viewers evaluate the candidates more clearly.
