Evacuation at a large Yekaterinburg mall after unclaimed parcel discovery
A large shopping mall in Yekaterinburg was evacuated after an unclaimed parcel was found inside one of its stores. The incident was reported by the shopping center’s press service and cited by the Russian news agency ura.ru. The discovery prompted an on-site response from security and police to ensure the safety of shoppers and staff.
Authorities say the unidentified package was located at the OBI retailer within the Mega shopping complex. In response, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene, and a dog handler together with an explosives technician were brought in to assess any potential threat. To guarantee public safety, everyone inside the mall, including visitors and employees, was asked to evacuate and move to designated safe areas while the evaluation took place.
After a thorough inspection, investigators confirmed that the package contained ordinary items that appeared to have been forgotten by someone. The shopping center’s management stressed that safety remains a top priority and that once all necessary security procedures were completed, both the store and the shopping center continued operating as usual. Details beyond this information were not disclosed by the press service.
Earlier this year, a similar incident occurred in Krasnodar, when about 1,500 people were evacuated from a shopping center following a report of a potential mining threat. Incidents like these underscore the importance of swift coordination among security teams, law enforcement, and the public to minimize disruption while maintaining safety for everyone inside large commercial facilities.
