A 37-year-old man was detained by national police in Estepona on suspicions of attempting to kill his partner and her young daughter. Investigators report that the suspect drenched his partner with gasoline after learning she planned to end their two-year relationship. He then used more fuel to saturate the interiors of the home, lit a cigarette, and caused a fire that threatened the two victims. Neighbors and officers helped the women escape the burning building without physical harm.
The incident prompted a call to the CIMACC 091 line of the National Police, with units from the gender violence division deployed in Estepona. Officers from the Citizen Assistance Group were present to locate the two women who turned out to be the mother and her daughter, both found soaked in fuel in front of their residence.
Trigger
The sequence began when one of the victims told her partner she intended to end the relationship they had maintained for two years. In response, the man assaulted her, poured fuel on both of them, and then set the house ablaze with a lit cigarette.
Following the reports, patrol units moved quickly to detain the suspect and called for firefighting crews along with UFAM specialists from the Estepona Local Police Station to assist with the victims and ensure a safe resolution to the incident.
Injured individuals who could exit the residence without confronting the flames were escorted to a medical facility by UFAM personnel. They were to file formal complaints and begin procedures to transition to a shelter as needed.

The case has a history of similar events and prior warnings that raised concerns about the suspect’s conduct toward family members. He is currently under investigation and is being referred to judicial authorities for potential charges related to ill-treatment of family members, with a custody decision pending.
