Enrique Urbizu has been tapped to steer HBO Max’s forthcoming original Spanish-language series. After a career that included directing and writing for Movistar Plus+ titles such as Gigantes and Libertad, Urbizu has joined Warner Bros. to guide the eight-episode project adapted from Sergio Sarria’s best-selling novel When No One Sees Us.
The story unfolds against the dramatic backdrop of Holy Week in a town that sets a tense stage for a gripping thriller. The series follows two female leads, both officers, as they race to unravel a string of crimes that seem connected to a single, revealing thread. Lucía Gutiérrez, a Civil Guard sergeant, investigates the suspicious suicide of a neighbor and a sequence of cryptic events tied to the town’s Holy Week procession. Magaly Castillo, a special agent with the United States Army Military Police, is dispatched to the Morón de la Frontera base to locate a missing American soldier. A shadowy sailor and a field base add to a web of clues that gradually prove the two investigations are intertwined, touching the lives of Morón’s residents and the soldiers stationed nearby.
Speaking about the project, Urbizu describes When No One Sees Us as a new and thrilling foray into detective television. He notes that the series pairs two women with very different backgrounds—one from the Civil Guard and one from the American Military Police—who share danger, secrets, and a relentless pursuit of truth. The tone and pacing mark a shift toward a more investigative, procedural style, offering audiences a fresh rhythm within the crime genre.
Daniel Corpas leads the screenwriting team, collaborating with Arturo Ruiz and Isa Sánchez. Urbizu, known for acclaimed works such as There Will Be No Peace for the Wicked and La Caja 507, will direct all eight episodes and star in the production for Warner Bros. The show is produced by Zeta Studios for Discovery, with executive producers including Antonio Asensio, Paloma Molina, and Salvador Yagüe on Zeta Studios’ side, alongside Miguel Salvat, Antonio Trashorras, and Patricia Nieto for Warner Bros. and Discovery. The collaboration aims to deliver a tightly wound thriller that blends procedural investigation with character-driven drama, anchored by strong female leads and a compelling, culturally resonant setting.
