During late evening, around 10 p.m. Moscow time, air defense forces in Russia reported intercepting and destroying an unmanned aerial vehicle operated by the Ukrainian armed forces over the Kursk region. Officials from Russia’s defense ministry conveyed that the drone was part of a plan to mount a terrorist-style attack, which was thwarted by ground- and air-based defense systems well-practiced in responding to aerial threats.
The ministry stated that mission air defense units stationed in the Kursk sector were actively engaged, employing a coordinated shield against the UAV as it approached the region. The operation highlighted the ongoing vigilance of regional air defense crews in safeguarding populated areas and critical infrastructure.
Earlier in the evening, at approximately 21:38 Moscow time, Kursk Governor Roman Starovoyt announced a heightened alert status for the Kursk region. He indicated that a regional information system for citizens had been activated in the city at the heart of the region to provide timely updates and warnings about potential missile danger.
In the morning, authorities reported a further incident in which air defense units from Russia’s national defense ministry neutralized another Ukrainian drone over Kursk. This marked the continuation of aerial activity along the border and the region’s readiness to respond to incursions.
Meanwhile, reports from the Ukrainian side indicate ongoing shelling of border areas, including the Sudzhansky district, with village-level damage confirmed in some communities. Local authorities and residents remain on alert as security measures are intensified along the border zone.
Earlier access routes and community spaces, such as schools and gardens in nearby Rostov-on-Don, were briefly affected by drone-related events, prompting temporary safety precautions and follow-up assessments by regional officials.
