Employment Tenure Trends Among Russians: A Closer Look

Recent data reveals that about one third of Russians have stayed with the same employer for three to five years. An additional 22 percent have been with the same company for more than a decade. The findings come from a joint study by Rabota.ru and SberPodbor, with analysis summarized for socialbites.ca.

Gender differences emerge in long-term employment. Women show a greater tendency to remain with a single employer for more than ten years, at 23 percent compared with 20 percent for men.

Breakdowns show that 12 percent of participants spent eight to ten years at one organization. Eleven percent have held a role for two to five years, with six to seven years also represented. On average, seven percent reported staying in the same position for one year, while four percent mentioned six months or less. A small portion, three percent, recently entered their first job.

Across industries, the longest tenures exceeding ten years are most common in security roles, where 40 percent of workers have remained, followed by personnel management at 31 percent and education at 30 percent. These patterns suggest stability in certain sectors even as others show more mobility.

Tenure in education and professional development often aligns with studies. A notable share of workers pursue education and training within periods of three to five years while employed. In this span, finance leads the list with 42 percent, followed by construction at 37 percent, marketing at 35 percent, IT at 33 percent, and transportation or logistics at 32 percent. These figures reflect industry-specific commitments to long-term growth and skill-building tied to job roles.

A recurring theme in the survey is the call for greater employer care. More than a third of Russians reported feeling reproached when employers showed a lack of attention or consideration, highlighting the connection between workplace culture and tenure length. This insight underscores how organizational climate can influence decisions about staying with an employer over time.
