A couple from Chuvashia was hospitalized after contracting anthrax, and reports indicate they managed to sell around 500 kilograms of infected bull meat prior to showing symptoms. The information comes from a Telegram channel called Puree.
The spouses are currently in hospital and not in immediate danger. Before they fell ill, there is a strong possibility that the contaminated meat was sold to travelers along roadsides. Because the sellers fled their current location, tracing the exact route of transmission remains challenging for investigators.
Evidence points to the man contracting the disease after injuring his hand with a knife during the slaughter of a bull, an incident that likely exposed him to infected material. Authorities have noted that the feed and livestock in the area may have been part of the source of infection, and official agencies are examining how the pathogen may have reached the region.
Earlier reports identified two other anthrax cases in Chuvashia. People who had contact with those who are infected are currently healthy but are being monitored as a preventive precaution to prevent further spread.
Public health officials emphasize the importance of prompt medical attention for anyone who might have been exposed to animal products from affected livestock. Proper handling, thorough cooking of meat, and adherence to veterinary and health guidance are critical steps in preventing transmission and protecting communities in the broader region. The authorities continue to investigate the origins of the outbreak and are working to trace any potential exposure points to stop additional cases from occurring.
