Elektrostal Market Warehouse Suffers Roof Damage After Heavy Rain; Restoration Underway
Wildberries reported that an intense downpour caused roof damage to the market place warehouse in Elektrostal, a town near Moscow. Recovery work has already begun, and the plant is continuing operations while repairs proceed. The information was confirmed by DEA News.
The company noted that rain damage affected roughly 500 square meters of the warehouse area, which sits within a total facility footprint of about 250,000 square meters. There were no casualties, and workers were evacuated from the compromised section as a precaution. The firm stressed that restoration activities started immediately and that inventory items have been relocated to other parts of the building to prevent further loss.
The scale of the damage is being managed as part of a broader inventory recovery plan. The company indicated that compensation would be arranged for the value of goods damaged in the incident, aligning with standard risk management and insurance procedures used in large-scale retail logistics centers.
Meanwhile, Forecaster Evgeny Tishkovets of the Phobos weather center described a period of heavy rainfall in Moscow on Sunday, August 20. He noted that roughly one third of the month’s rainfall for Moscow occurred during this event, underscoring the intensity of the weather that day.
According to the forecaster, automatic weather stations located in the capital’s northeast and in the Istra district registered precipitation levels of up to 28 millimeters. This figure represents about 35 percent of the monthly total, a striking reminder of how a single storm can deliver a substantial dose of rain in a short time, equating to what he described as three buckets of rainwater per square kilometer.
